Often, the terms deodorant and antiperspirant are used interchangeably, so when you start your natural deodorant journey, trying to understand the difference between the two might be quite confusing.
An Antiperspirant can describe any product that inhibits the body from sweating; typically, conventional antiperspirant uses aluminium for this purpose. This is an effective but controversial light metal as more research must be done to fully evaluate aluminium’s health risks.
How do natural deodorants work?
Elsa’s natural deodorants, instead, sidestep this ingredient, and we prefer to use better organic plant-based ingredients to combat body odour and sweat. Our vegan deodorants keep you dry using ingredients such as magnesium oxide to neutralise odour and arrowroot powder, which absorbs wetness.
We believe that some sweating is good for you. It's one of the most efficient ways to detox your body, as it helps you flush out substances such as alcohol, cholesterols and salts. Interestingly, sweating is also a proven way to help your body fight germs and pathogens due to its anti-microbial peptides.
What’s In Elsa’s Deodorant?
Our Core Ingredients:
- Magnesium oxide: a valuable mineral which counteracts odour-causing bacteria on the skin.
- Arrowroot Powder: a natural sweat absorbent which is great on sensitive skin
- Coconut Oil: has antibacterial fatty acids which soothes skin and reduce bacteria.
- Candela Wax: protects and conditions the skin but also helps the deodorant have a smooth consistency
- Cacao Seed Butter: Moisturises skin and acts as a natural antioxidant that preserves the deodorant
The ingredients that make them smell amazing:
We can't give too much away because Elsa’s scents are top-secret blends of essential oils. Our deodorants contain natural and organic essential oils, many of which also contain anti-microbial properties and support the deodorant's odour-combatting properties.
Our Sensitive Deodorant contains no essential oils and is perfect for those with ultra-sensitive skin. As a result, it lacks any scent.
What’s not in Elsa’s Deodorant?
During the formulation of Elsa’s deodorants, we had to try and research almost everything. As a result, we know that there are some key ingredients we would never include in our products.
Sodium bicarbonate: this is often used as an important ingredient for many natural deodorants; however, those with sensitive skin might be allergic to it, and it is an ingredient that you can develop a reaction to even after using it for months without a reaction.
Single-use materials: We strive to be a zero-waste company, so all of our deodorants arrive in either a home compostable tube made from recycled paper or a recyclable tin.
